Brand identity and digital design for Montreal jewellers

Ex Aurum is a fine diamond and jewellery brand based in Montreal, established over thirty years ago and renowned for its craftsmanship and integrity. Despite its legacy, the brand had never undergone a rebrand nor truly entered the digital space, relying on traditional brick-and-mortar retail.
As Ex Aurum prepared to expand into e-commerce, HYD Studio was engaged to translate decades of heritage into a contemporary digital identity with the intention to engage a modern audience while staying true to the brand’s origins.
The challenge was to evolve without erasing the past.
Ex Aurum had a loyal, multi-generational customer base but an outdated visual identity and no cohesive digital presence. The insight was found in honouring the craftsmanship and trust built over three decades while positioning the brand as a modern luxury destination for new audiences.
The rebrand needed to balance legacy with progression: timeless, not traditional; modern, but never fleeting.
Our process began by looking backward to move forward.
Through a discovery phase with Ex Aurum’s leadership, we identified five key pillars: the founding values, their evolution, and how those principles could be expressed through design today. These insights guided the creative direction, building the new identity that felt both rooted in history and reflective of modern luxury.
The design direction emphasised clarity, calm, and craftsmanship, echoing the precision of fine jewellery while conveying quiet confidence and longevity.
